The SETRIC project can achieve, by means of its networking method, what EU or national policies will hardly obtain: a dynamic interchange of ideas and conceptions of disaster prevention and management procedures.

In contrast to a single national model concept that is likely to be based on limited expertise, the interregional network will provide an intricate pattern of response procedures conceived under diverse geographical, political and cultural conditions.

By constituting this broad spectrum, the project contributes to rapid and efficient allocation and exchange of knowledge which cannot be achieved by regular "top-to-bottom" policies.

This project pattern is not new but innovative in the field of disaster management. SETRIC will enable all participating regions and municipalities, and later on further interested ones, to design their own disaster management structure.

As the main response procedures are located at the local level, the network will provide for a direct boost on sustainable development in the respective region.
